Brunswick – Today, Bruce Poliquin, candidate for Maine Governor issued a strong statement in opposition to the proposed bond packages that will go before the state legislature tomorrow. Poliquin said Maine must address the basics of properly managing a state budget before taking on new debt.
“Augusta cannot continue such gross fiscal negligence that endangers our future prosperity,” said Poliquin. “Maine does not have deficits because we tax or borrow too little, but because we spend too much. We must relearn how to spend only what we take in. Our elected leaders should be proposing an evaluation of what services we should provide based on what we can afford. As Governor, I will send a strong message that there will be no more borrowing unless we learn to properly manage a budget.”
In addition, Poliquin applaud the efforts of the Republican leadership to oppose the bond package.
“I am encouraged by the Republican response to the bond package,” Poliquin added. “I will stand with those who will do the right thing for Maine and fight against any attempt to put taxpayers further into debt.”
