Georgetown - Today, Bruce Poliquin, candidate for Maine Governor, responded to the release of the Governor’s plan to address a $438 million budget shortfall:
“Today’s announcement by the Governor represents another disappointing episode in the ongoing fiscal mismanagement of our state. As in past budgets, it depends heavily on budget gimmicks and raiding funds already allocated for other purposes. It also irresponsibly assumes Washington will provide significant additional assistance to our poorly managed and bloated Medicaid program. This so-called “placeholder” is the financial equivalent of keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best.”
“Mainers should not be convinced that this plan represents anything other than business-as-usual in Augusta. At its core, this budget plan lacks a fundamental shift in the way our state government is run. The message is loud and clear: our elected officials are not willing to make the tough decisions and prefer to push them on to the next administration.”
