Yarmouth – Tonight, Bruce Poliquin, candidate for Maine Governor, attended a gubernatorial forum where he highlighted his management experience and professional qualifications to handle Maine’s deep financial challenges. Poliquin, a business manager with extensive experience in finance and economics, said Augusta needs strong leadership from someone who knows how an economy works in order to promote prosperity and create jobs.
“Maine can no longer afford such fiscal mismanagement,” said Poliquin in opening remarks. “A good manager will audit every department, agency, and program to eliminate waste and redundancy, and institute performance metrics to ensure they are working properly. A skilled manager will appoint other professional managers to run our departments and agencies – not political appointees. And only a competent manager from the private sector can provide the experience and long-term vision to build a prosperous and sustainable economy.”
“My entire professional life has been in the private sector. I’ve successfully started, managed, and invested in companies that have created good work for hundreds of Mainers and injected millions of dollars into our economy,” Poliquin added. “My background in finance and business management gives me the unique experience to address the budget crisis we deal with year after year. I have navigated the state’s complex web of regulations and bureaucracy. I know how tough it is to start and manage a business here, and will work to help Maine become more business friendly. “
Poliquin’s attention to the specific economic problems Maine faces allowed him to stand out from the rest of the candidates. His articulated a vision for Maine that has been resonating with voters all across the state and gave direct, honest answers during the Question & Answer portion of the forum.
“This is a great way to reach out to voters and present a vision for the future of our state,” Poliquin said after the event. “I’ve been making the case for competent management in Augusta for more than a year and have been receiving an incredible response. People believe now is the time for someone with the right qualifications and financial experience to lead Maine.”
The forum was hosted by the Town Republican Committees of Cumberland, Falmouth, Gray, New Gloucester, North Yarmouth, Pownal, and Yarmouth, and moderated by Terran Bragdon, Chief Executive Officer of The Maine Heritage Policy Center.
