Georgetown - Bruce Poliquin, candidate for Maine Governor, announced today that he raised $277,265 in the first reporting period of 2009. Poliquin received contributions totaling $117,351 from 449 donors and invested $159,913 in his own campaign.  He spent $21,886, and ended the period with $193,405 cash on hand.  Poliquin collected more than $35,000 through online donations, with more than half coming in the last 48 hours before the June 30 deadline.

“Such broad support helped us quickly meet and surpass our goals,” said Poliquin. “To attract nearly 450 donors this early says a lot about how hard we’ve worked, and how much Mainers want to support a candidate with my business and financial experience.”

Since filing earlier this year, Poliquin has traveled in the campaign’s Mobile Office to meet with hundreds of voters and attend numerous events across the State.  The GOP primary is in June of 2010.

“I’m not taking anything for granted,” continues Poliquin, “I’m traveling the State listening to the issues and concerns of as many Mainers as possible.  This is a grassroots campaign that has already attracted hundreds of donors and dozens of volunteers.  No other candidate has amassed this type of support for their run for the Blaine House.  That says a lot about our message, and the desire of Mainers to support a candidate who has the business and financial management experience to lead.”

In addition to traveling nearly every day in the campaign bus to meet voters, Poliquin personally emails thousands of supporters each week to update them on the work he’s doing.  He regularly employs social networking tools, such as Twitter and Facebook, and uses his personal blog to explain policy positions and promote upcoming events.

Poliquin’s official website, http://www.BruceForMe.com, attracts hundreds of visitors each day and allows direct access to Bruce.

“This is the grassroots hard work that has to be done if we’re going to bring a new type of government to Augusta,” Poliquin concluded.
